September Report

September 2004

Jurby - 5th September

The practice started with me setting the fastest times in the dry and sunny conditions. The kart suffered from understeer but nothing that could really upset the times. My fastest lap was a 58.92.

In the first heat I was at the back of the grid. I moved my way through the field catching the leader. I followed the leader until the sixth lap before I made a move on him, into the bottom corner to take the lead. He later overtook me to win the race by 0.10s and we both set exactly the same lap time (59.72).

In the second heat I was gridded third. I moved into first along the first straight and kept this position for the rest of the race. I finished the race 5 seconds in front of anyone else and setting the fastest lap of 58.78s.

In the third heat I was gridded eighth, I drove hard through the field till I was first. I retained this position for the rest of the race, after hard competition from the second place driver throughout the whole race.

In the final I was on pole. The lights went green and the race began. I stayed in first until the second placed driver made a move into the bottom corner on lap 4. I was now in second but not for long as I dived up the inside of the leader into the first corner. The race carried on, as the second placed driver on lap 7 overtook me due to the fact I made a mistake drifting out wide. The same lap I tried to get the place back, but as I came alongside the driver moved across the track and there was a collision. I came off the worst, with a bent axle and was unable to finish the race. This left me with a disastrous points tally for the day.

Jurby - 26th September

The practice started with the dull and damp weather clearing for the track to dry, the practice progressed with me still setting the fastest lap, even though my kart had loads of over-steer.

The first heat started and I was near the front of the grid in fourth position. The race started and I moved up into first position. Graham Allinson later overtook me. The lead changed many times during the race and we crossed the line almost together. Graham won by 0.06s.

In the second heat I was at the back of the grid and had a lot of work to do to get to the front. The lights went green and I was off into the first corner. I moved up to 7th behind the rest of the field, till I got to the straight where I passed 4 drivers and moved into 3rd. up the hill on the back straight I moved into 2nd. On the next straight I moved into first after a great overtaking manoeuvre into the third corner. As the race carried on I set the fastest lap time of 59.89s, even though my kart didnt have any front end turn in.

In the third heat I was gridded 6th. I moved into 2nd down the first straight. I then gained first place in the next corner. I finished the race 9.34 seconds in front and setting the fastest lap of 59.91s.

In the final it would prove to be quite tough as the top drivers where at the front of the grid. As the race started I took the lead. I managed to extend the gap to 6 seconds by lap nine, before colliding with a back marker who hadnt seen the blue flag. I lost some time though this incident but still managed to win the race 4 seconds ahead of the second placed driver.
